Arsenal look to extend their lead at the top

(Football news) The 193rd North London derby headlines when Tottenham Hotspur entertain bitter rivals and league leaders Arsenal. The last time these two sides met the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners over Antonio Conte’s side but the Lilywhites tend to prove a different team to beat in North London derbies on their home ground. Tottenham relied on a Harry Kane goal to get them over the line against Portsmouth in the FA Cup as they have set up a fourth-round trip to Preston North End in the process.

The 15-year trophyless run will certainly be in Conte’s mind as the Italian faces an uphill battle to make it back-to-back seasons in the Champions League for Spurs, who are now in fifth place in the table with 33 points from a possible 54 and are two behind Manchester United having played a game more. The 4-0 win over Crystal Palace is arguably the only convincing match that Tottenham have posted over the past couple of months, with three of their last four Premier League matches at home ended in defeat and have let in at least two goals per game. Victory at Selhurst Park did snap a dreadful seven-game league run without a clean sheet for Spurs. They have not failed to score against Arsenal in the Premier League since November 2017.

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Doherty, Bissouma, Hojbjerg, Perisic; Kulusevski, Kane, Son

With Manchester United and Manchester City facing each other, Arsenal will know that a victory will help them go 8 points clear at the top. Arsenal’s title credentials have bolstered they are close to signing top transfer target Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Gunners are now unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League matches as Arsenal have five wins from their last six Premier League games they have conceded six goals away from home which is the best defensive record in the Premier League alongside Man City and Newcastle.

Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka all scored in Arsenal’s win over Spurs at the Emirates in October, but since then Tottenham have won all three North London derbies at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and would love to derail their Premier League title ambitions further.

Arsenal possible starting lineup:

Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Nketiah
