(Football news) Argentina have been announced as the new hosts for the Under-20 World Cup after Indonesia were stripped of the rights for the tournament. The decision came after Bali’s governor Wayan Koster refused to host the Israel team as the two countries don’t have any formal diplomatic relations.

Marches were held across the country demanding Israel be stopped from competing at the tournament as citizens expressed their solidarity with Palestinians. The draw for the World Cup will now take place in Zurich and the tournament is set to be held from 20th May to 11th June. Indonesia were awarded hosting rights in 2019 before Israel qualified for the tournament.

Speaking about Argentina being the new hosts, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said “Fifa is delighted to announce that this year’s edition of the U-20 World Cup will take place in Argentina, as the home of the world champions opens its doors to the tomorrow’s superstars of world football. Having this year’s edition taking place in a country that lives and breathes football will be a tremendous inspiration for the stars of tomorrow.”
