(Football news) Despite a tumultuous season for Liverpool which might result in the team not qualifying for Champions League football, Jurgen Klopp’s side remain in the running to sign 19 year old Jude Bellingham, who is undoubtedly one of the hottest prospects in world football. Liverpool’s midfield woes are well documented and have been an integral factor in their lack of consistency this season and signing Bellingham for the right price would be a big win for the Reds, if they manage to shake off competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Bellingham had a stellar 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was also shortlisted for the 2022 European Golden Boy award. His form at Borussia Dortmund has been equally impressive, scoring 10 goals in 23 games in all competitions. Liverpool are currently ninth in the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp has already hinted that there will be incoming transfers in the summer window but it will be interesting to see if Bellingham, who can walk into any team in the world, will move to a club that might not be in the Champions League next season.
Unlike Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham does not have a release clause in his contract which means Borussia Dortmund will charge between €100m-€150m for him in the summer. Liverpool have made a number of expensive signings recently, with Darwin Nunez costing £85.6m, Virgil van Dijk costing £76.2m but Bellingham could easily end up being the club’s most expensive player ever. Jurgen Klopp described Bellingham as “exceptional” last month based on his World Cup performances, but with Liverpool undergoing a potential takeover or looking for new investors, one can’t help but think they might not be able to afford a player like Bellingham, especially without Champions League football.
