A request for a right of review has been made by Aston Martin in relation to Fernando Alonso's Formula 1 penalty at the Chinese Grand Prix.

(Motorsports news) Following his collision with Carlos Sainz in the Saturday race, Alonso was awarded three penalty points on his license and a 10-second time penalty in the sprint.

At Turn 9, a struggle broke out between the Spaniards over third place, resulting in a puncture that forced the two-time world champion to quit the race. Sergio Perez profited from the mishap by finishing in the top three.

Alonso was not persuaded he was at fault, even though the stewards chose to discipline him “in accordance with the guidelines on driving standards.”

After the sprint, he commented, “We were evenly matched in Turn 7, then in Turn 8 I tried to go to the outside.” However, he opened the line to deny me space, so I followed his lead in Turn 8 in Turn 9.

“In Turn 8, I opened up so we didn’t touch, and in Turn 9, he didn’t open up, despite my attempts to go inside and not give him room on the line. Thus, we made contact.

In order for the stewards to reconsider their decision, the team will now have to present them with new evidence. The team management of Aston Martin and Ferrari will convene for a first hearing on May 3rd to decide whether the British team’s evidence merits the stewards’ scrutiny.

The stewards stated in their statement that “it should be noted that this hearing will be held in two parts.” “We will first hear testimony regarding the existence of any significant and relevant new element which was unavailable to the party seeking the Review at the time of the decision concerned.'”

“A second section of the hearing will be convened at a time to be advised should the Stewards find that such an element exists in accordance with Article 14.3 of the FIA International Sporting Code. If a hearing is called, any other “interested party” may request permission from the Stewards to attend the second portion of the hearing.”
