Alonso lists the shortcomings of the Aston Martin F1 for 2024

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso believes that Aston Martin needs to enhance the speed and consistency of its Formula 1 car on straight lines by 2024.

(Motorsports news) Results significantly declined after Austria, despite Aston Martin being the surprise package early in the season and Alonso showing that he posed a real danger to Red Bull for race victories. Reverse-engineering parts meant for 2024 to run on the AMR23 is said to have injured Aston, and it also may have caused them to go off track.

Alonso argues that in order to advance further and increase top speed, designers must address the drag level and widen the car’s operational window as the team gets ready for the 2019 race season. “I think we need to find some consistency,” he clarified. The fact that the car had to function in a very small window could have been one of its weak aspects.

“Everyone is experiencing the same issues [with the ground-effect cars proving to be especially sensitive], but it appears like we’re having some difficulties. It would be great if we could consistently operate at a stable level come next year.” Additionally, if we can increase our straight-line speed—I believe that was our weak part in terms of performance metrics. Always a tad too slow when traveling straight.

“We have to drop the rear wing too much if we wanted to be as fast as the others. Then we too found ourselves going slowly in the turns. Thus, it appears that we were stuck in that cycle during this season. Although those “experiments” have helped provide the squad with a clearer orientation for the upcoming season, Alonso believed that the development that was centered on 2024 was the reason for the limited operational window.

“I believe [it was] a result somewhat of the car’s development,” he went on. However, as I previously stated, everyone must make certain sacrifices in order to improve performance in other areas when attempting to maximize the car’s potential. You begin to reduce the window’s width.

However, I believe we have some plans for the following year, so things ought to improve. Alonso went on to say that Aston’s plan, “energy,” and tire management would all be important factors in 2024. Tyre degradation was the strength, according to Alonso. “I believe the automobile is always really powerful on Sundays.

“Team motivation and strategy execution.” Despite being a young squad, we are a happy one. “Every outcome is being celebrated as a victory, and it is crucial to maintain this spirit for the upcoming year.”
