(Football news) RFYC capped off the season with a flawless win and a big thank you to Kontoujam for relentlessly breaking through the Mariners’ defence with a first-half and two second-half goals. RFYC broke the deadlock with an excellent counter attack in the 10th minute. He stole the ball inside the left flank and broke through the midfield of ATK Mohun Bagan with a sharp vertical pass. Kontujam deftly received the ball near the 18-yard penalty area and smashed it into the bottom right corner to give his team the decisive lead.

The Kolkata team then tried to regain momentum. The duo of Roythonbam Tayson Singh and Suhail Ahmed Baht tangled again and again up front and found a way to break through the RFYC defence. However, Shin Izumi’s team found a perfect position, and when they stole the ball deep in their own half, they were in danger of breaking through on the counterattack.

There appeared to be a notable change in their tactical line-up that match, which was reflected in their ability to close out the game with relative ease in the second half. Kontujam made it through the final third seamlessly, regularly breaking through ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence from both flanks. This culminated in his second goal of the night from the right side in the 51st minute.

RFYC had built a fluid attacking move and distributed the ball very well to both ends of the field. The striker sliced into the box to receive an almost perfect pass and ended the attack with a left footed goal into the bottom left corner of the goal. RFYC remained unfazed and continued to increase pressure.

They tested ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence from every angle and pushed their players forward to score an extra goal that could turn the tide of the match in their favour. Luckily for her, Izumi’s side won a penalty in the 58th minute, with Kontujam stepping forward and scoring. Mariners goaltender Saeed Zahid Hussain went the wrong way as the young RFYC forward scored a memorable hat-trick. RFYC substitute Avaneesh Kamas then nodded his head for a well-placed header in the 65th minute, as the team ended an impressive two-out-four win streak.
