(Football news) Daley Blind’s long standing association with Ajax is set to finally end after the club and the player have mutually agreed to terminate his contract six months early. Blind has been a part of Ajax since the age of 8, featuring for the club 333 times during his two spells. In his career, he has won seven Eredivisie titles and scored 13 goals. The 32 year old played every game for the Netherlands during the 2022 World Cup until their quarter-final exit and he also scored against the United States.

“Over the course of the last few days, we reached an agreement with Daley to terminate his contract. I hope he can find another club to end his successful career with. Together with Daley, we have decided on a match in the ArenA where he can say a proper goodbye to the supporters.”

Ajax CEO Edwin Van Der Sar

Blind returned to Ajax after a four year spell at Manchester United (2014-2018) and his departure from the Dutch club comes as a surprise, especially considering that he has played all but one game for Ajax this season. Blind plays with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) in his chest to detect irregular heartbeats and gives life-saving shock in times of cardiac arrest. Considering his recent form with both Ajax and the Netherlands, he should be able to find a new club in the January transfer window in the twilight of his career.
