(Cricket News) Tanmay Agarwal set a new record for the fastest triple hundred in first-class cricket by scoring 300 runs in a Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The 28-year-old batsman achieved this remarkable feat in 147 deliveries and remained unbeaten at Stumps on 323 off 160 balls, including 33 fours and 21 sixes.

In the process, Agarwal also broke a 39-year-old record held by Indian cricket legend Ravi Shastri by scoring the fastest double hundred in first-class cricket in just 119 deliveries. Riding on Agarwal’s extraordinary innings, Hyderabad finished Day 1 of the fourth round of Ranji matches at 529/1. Captain Gahlaut Rahul Singh also contributed significantly with 185 runs.

In other matches, Tamil Nadu opener Narayan Jagadeesan struck his second hundred of the tournament, remaining unbeaten on 108 in the Group C match against Chandigarh. The day started with Chandigarh opting to bat, but they posted a below-par total of 111. Jagadeesan and Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s 176-run partnership for the second wicket put Tamil Nadu in a dominant position.

In another Group C match in Valsad, Ashutosh Sharma played a valiant innings of 123 for Railways against Gujarat. Meanwhile, in a Group B encounter, Anustup Majumdar smashed an unbeaten century, and skipper Manoj Tiwary remained not out on a half-century as Bengal reached 242/4 against Assam on day one. After losing a few early wickets, Majumdar and Tiwary’s unbroken 185-run partnership for the fifth wicket steadied Bengal’s innings. The 39-year-old Majumdar was unbeaten on 120, while Tiwary made 68 not out.
