AC Milan take on struggling Juventus while Inter face Sassuolo

(Football news) A tussle between two of Serie A's heavyweights sees champions AC Milan welcome Juventus to the San Siro. Having experienced different fates in Europe this week, the two teams are separated by four points and two places in the league table but form wise with the hosts currently holding the upper hand. After winning six continuous home matches in Serie A, Milan lost their last league outing at San Siro to Napoli and after managing to get a late win at Empoli last week, they slipped to defeat in the Champions League.

They were comfortably beaten 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, the Rossoneri's clash with Chelsea certainly did not go to plan, though a long list of key players were missing to provide mitigation for the manner of their collapse. Juventus may have won six of their last nine meetings with Milan at San Siro, but they have clearly slipped down the pecking order behind the Rossoneri of late. Their main reason for their continued decline since Allegri returned has been the below-par away form, his side have picked up only two points from the last three Serie A away matches this season. Only in the last 40 years have Juve failed to win any of their first four on the road.

Soon after a form-defying triumph in Europe, Inter Milan will return to domestic duty as they visit the Mapei Stadium to face giant killers Sassuolo. Having beaten Barcelona in the Champions League, the Nerazzurri will now focus on recovery from a sluggish start in Serie A, which sees them only level on points with Sassuolo. Inter are ninth in the Serie A standings after losing four league games out of the 8 they have played so far which subsequently represents the club's worst start to a season for 11 years. Inter welcomed one of Europe's top sides to San Siro more in trepidation than hope of winning but Inzaghi’s men surprised everyone by showing great grit and determination to hold onto a 1-0 lead. Inter are already eight points behind Napoli and Atalanta as last week Inter suffered their first loss to Roma since 2017 which left them stranded adrift of their main Scudetto rivals
