AC Milan take on Napoli in a top of the table clash

(Football news) A heavyweight clash sees the top two sides in the Serie A battle as defending champions AC Milan and southern rivals Napoli take each other on at the San Siro. Milan aim for their third straight victory, while their visitors arrive in the city having won matches in a row. Napoli are still unbeaten this season and AC Milan are unbeaten in their last 22 Serie A games. Milan have made an excellent start to their defence of the Scudetto they won in May after 11 years.

Following a string of successive domestic wins over the fortnight, they followed derby day victory against Inter with a brilliant 10-man comeback victory away to Sampdoria. The Rossoneri are now separated from the summit of the standings only by a goal difference inferior to that of both Atalanta and Napoli. The last time AC Milan enjoyed a longer unbeaten streak was back in 2013. Their recent record against Napoli is not good as they have lost their last two league fixtures against the Azzurri, both by a scoreline of 1-0.

Napoli have kept six clean sheets in their last nine Serie A matches, the record stretches back to the end of last season. Furthermore, the pressing from their forwards has helped them achieve more high turnovers (60), and more shots (13) than any other team in the league. They are also the top scorers in Serie A so far, the Campanian club had to reshape their squad after a lot of senior players left Naples last season but new boys Raspadori, Kim Min-jae and Khvicha Kvaratskheliahave helped them reach new highs under Spalletti, and they are now well-placed to challenge for the Scudetto.

AC Milan possible starting lineup:
Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Kalulu, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Messias, De Ketelaere, Saelemaekers; Giroud

Napoli possible starting lineup:
Meret; Di Lorenzo, Kim, Rrahmani, Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka; Politano, Zielinski, Kvaratskhelia; Raspadori

Inter Milan visit Udinese at the Dacia Arena on Sunday as Simone Inzaghi's side were successful in getting off the mark in the Champions League Group C, beating Czech champions Viktoria Plzen 2-0. Inter have now won three of their last four away games in the Champions League, but they return to Serie A as they are travelling to Udinese, where they enjoyed a great deal of success in recent years. They still remain undefeated by Udinese since December 2017, winning 11 and losing just two of their last 19 away games against them as the last such loss came  nine years ago.
