(Cricket News) Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat Giants by 25 runs to register their third win of the TATA WPL 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Skipper Meg Lanning’s half century helped the Capitals post a target of 164. The Giants could only manage 138, with Radha Yadav and Jess Jonassen both picking up three wickets apiece for the Capitals. JioCinema and Sports18 WPL experts Anjum Chopra and Saba Karim analyzed the match on ‘Match Center Live’. Excerpts:

Anjum Chopra on Gujarat Giants’ performance: “She (Ashleigh Gardner) was on top of her game, and it was like a contest brewing between the Australians – who’s going to hit Jess Jonassen out of the park? Remember when Ashleigh Gardner bowled a loosener to Jess Jonassen and to Annabel Sutherland – both of them hit it outside the park. But, towards the end, I thought Gujarat should have ended up winning the contest and it was only because of those dropped chances, right at the start, odd fielding and the mishaps. If they were chasing a target of 135 or 140, I am sure the result would have been different.”

Saba Karim, JioCinema and Sports18 WPL expert, on Player of the Match, Jess Jonassen’s performance: “Jonassen is a quality spinner not only because she has an idea on what should be the length and speed on such pitches, but also most importantly, she knows how to read the opposition and that’s what we got to see today in her spell. The way she took those three important wickets, that’s where it became difficult for Gujarat Giants to come back in the game.”

Karim on Titas Sadhu: “I think that Titas forced herself into the Playing XI today, her performance in international cricket is a major reason she got this opportunity today. She was in the team last year as well but didn’t get an opportunity to play. Today, she made her debut and the way she bowled the first over for a maiden, the control she showed over the ball clearly shows that she has the ability to be an effective pace bowling wicket taking option for Meg Lanning and Delhi Capitals in the coming matches. The second leg is heading to Delhi, the pitch there would be beneficial for both the spinners as well as the pacers.”
