Here’s a recap from the weekend’s Premier League action

(Football news) Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium thanks to a volley by Bruno Fernandes, helping manager Erik ten Hag secure his first away win in the Premier League. It was the team’s first back-to-back victory since February and they will undoubtedly hope to maintain momentum ahead of matches against Leicester City and Arsenal. The Red Devils are now 8th in the league table with 6 points while their rivals Liverpool are 9th, just a point behind.

Raheem Sterling scored twice as 10 man Chelsea defeated Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to progress into 6th place in the Premier League table. Thomas Tuchel was forced to sit in the stands after serving a one match ban for the altercation with Antonio Conte and tweaked his tactics to secure the three points. However, everything changed when Conor Gallagher was sent off with less than half an hour played after illegally halting two Leicester counter-attacks. The Blues did manage to bounce back from the setback with two goals from Sterling while Leicester’s Harvey Barnes was also on the scoresheet with the three points getting Chelsea back to the top half of the Premier League table.

Liverpool ran riot at Anfield, defeating Bournemouth with a staggering scoreline of 9-0 to register his first win of the season. The Reds had their worst start to a Premier League season in a decade after their loss to Manchester United but bounced back emphatically against Bournemouth with goals from Luis Diaz (2), Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Chris Mepham (OG), Roberto Firmino (2) and Fabio Carvalho. It was quite a response from Jurgen Klopp’s team who will look to build on this performance in their upcoming matches against Newcastle United and Everton.

Reigning champions Manchester City came from two goals behind to secure a 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium. New signing Erling Haaland scored a 19 minute hat-trick to help the reigning champions secure three points from a challenging position and took his overall tally to six goals in four games. It was a game of two halves for Manchester City who struggled to break down the Palace defence in the first half but showed great character once again to secure the points after being two goals down in 21 minutes. The result means that City are in 2nd place with 10 points, two points behind Arsenal who have won each of their four games so far.

Arsenal maintained their impressive start in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are the only team in the league to have won each of their four games played and are currently at the top of the table. A mistake by Gabriel Magalhaes allowed Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic to score the game’s opening goal in the 56th minute but Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard pulled a goal back in the 64h minute. The Gunners then scored the winner with Magalhaes making up for his mistake in the 85th minute when Bernd Leno failed to claim a corner, thereby maintaining the North London side's sides 100% record so far.
