(Esports news) Free Fire has been recognized as the Esports Mobile Game of the Year for the second consecutive time at the Esports Awards 2021 ceremony. The game was nominated alongside PUBG Mobile, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends, Call of Duty: Mobile, Brawl Stars, Clash Royale, and League of Legends: Wild Rift for the prestigious award.
Over the last few years, Garena Free Fire has become one of the most prominent esports titles with a player base in millions and has earned the highest revenue in the mobile games category on the play store across the world. Justin Lye, Global Esports Manager of Garena said his team were “honoured and humbled” to win the award for the second year consecutively and gave credit to Free Fire’s global community which includes players, viewers and partners. He also expressed that the award gives the team confidence and motivation to do even better in 2022.
At the Free Fire World Series 2021 in Singapore, the game set a new global esports record of 5.4 million peak concurrent viewers. Free Fire also became the first mobile battle royale game to achieve 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store, a monumental achievement to say the least and an indication of just how influential the game is amongst the masses.
In other awards, Valorant was named the best title in PC esports while PUBG Mobile player Paraboy won the Esports Mobile Player of the Year award. The 17 year old from China currently plays for Nova Esports and is widely considered to be one of the best PUBG mobile players in the world. He had previously won the Man At His Best awards in Young Power of the year by Esquire and the Annual Popular E-sports Newcomer Award by Sina Sports.
