(Football news) The 20-time English champions recorded their biggest victory of the season on Sunday, with Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford both coming up with braces at Old Trafford.
Amad stole the show, though, with the Ivory Coast international providing two assists, while he also played a vital role in his side’s second of the match, and Amorim said that the forward “is in a great moment”.
However, the new Manchester United head coach was keen to stress that the team have so much to improve on in the coming weeks.
“The result was good but we were pragmatic. It was not pretty but we were pragmatic. We did our job, which is to win. You can feel that we have a long way to go. You can feel that in the first few minutes, where we were OK, but then Everton controlled the game. Then we got the goals in the right moment and that changed the game,” Amorim told.
Amorim demands more from Manchester United players after Everton win
“You can’t just focus on the result, you have to focus on the way the result appeared. Like before the game, we have so much to do, but it is better to work with victories. Let’s focus on the performance more than the result.
“You can feel it during the game. It isn’t a line of top performances, it is a rollercoaster of performances. We have some moments when we are good but then we have moments when we have to suffer. We did it again like in the Europa League. We need time to train and improve. It is better to work with victories.”
In a separate interview, Amorim said when asked about Amad: “He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he also has to improve. He is in a great moment. Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he’s helping me.
“It was far from a perfect performance. We have to improve, you can feel that in the game. After 15 minutes Everton controlled the game and it was difficult for us and we were losing the second ball. I felt that the players could solve some problems that we have as a team because of the quality that they have but it was far from a perfect performance but a really good result and tough match.
“It helps to have a new face, it always helps. We have to be very clear to our fans and this will always help. Rather than trying to convince the fans about this performance we have a lot to do, it will take time. Sometimes we are not playing well but defended everyone together. Our fans just ask for hard work and then in time they will ask for better football.”
What does December look like for Manchester United?
Manchester United will take on Arsenal (A) and Nottingham Forest (H) in their next two Premier League matches, before heading to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12, three days before the Manchester derby with Manchester City in the league.
Manchester United will then head to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on December 19 before back-to-back Premier League games with Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers either side of Christmas, and the month will then end with a league fixture at home to Newcastle United.
