(Cricket News) Bangar, who previously served as head coach of the Punjab Kings from 2014 to 2016, will work alongside head coach Trevor Bayliss in the coaching department and participate in the upcoming mini-auction in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.

“We have a good core of players as evidenced by the fact that we have the fewest player releases this year,” Bangar stated in a media release. “It is my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. The challenge is to give the squad the best support possible during and after the season to make the team stronger and deliver success.”

Bangar has ten years of coaching experience, having served as the batting coach with the Indian men’s team twice. Outside of recently enjoying success with the RCB, Bangar helped Punjab reach the 2014 season finale, where they finished second, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Bangar worked as the batting consultant for one year (2021) at the Royal Challengers Bangalore before taking over the role of head coach for the next two seasons. Bangar worked alongside RCB’s director of cricket, Mike Hesson, and helped RCB reach the playoffs in two of the three seasons.

With only five players revealed before to the mini-auction, the Punjab Kings now have eight spots to fill with a leftover budget of INR 29.1 crores. The top names in the player pool are India’s Shah Rukh Khan and Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksha.
