(Football news) Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Slovakia on Friday assured them a spot in the finals, but Bosnia-Herzegovina, who are now four points behind Slovakia in second place in the division, can still finish second.

With three wins and four losses in their seven Group J games, Bosnia-Herzegovina has amassed nine points and is now in fourth place with a chance to move up to second place in the group. If the Dragons lose to Portugal and Slovakia wins over Luxembourg, they will fall four points short of second-place Slovakia and will not be able to finish in the top two.

Including a 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein on Friday, when goals came from Amar Rahmanovic and Miroslav Stevanovic, Savo Milosevic’s team has won two of their previous three games in the section.

Even if the Bosnians’ hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 are dashed, they still have a chance to qualify because they have already guaranteed a spot in the playoffs based on their standing in the UEFA Nations League.

Though the Dragons were not able to advance past the group stage of the 2014 World Cup, they did participate in the competition. This is the first European Championship that the team has ever qualified for.

On Friday night, Portugal defeated Slovakia 3-2 to guarantee their spot in the 2024 European Championship. A certain Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in the thrilling match.

Group J leaders Roberto Martinez’s team is eight points clear of Slovakia in second place, while Luxembourg in third place is ten points adrift with three games remaining. The team has won all seven of its games, scored 27 goals and given up two goals.

Given their skill and experience in the sport, Portugal will be among the favourites to taste victory in the European Championship next summer. They are undefeated since their 2022 World Cup quarterfinal loss to Morocco. Martinez has enjoyed his tenure as manager thus far.

The Iberian nation is well-known for winning Euro 2016, and they have also finished second in 2004 and advanced to the semifinals in 1984, 2000, and 2012. Therefore, they have the experience necessary to succeed in this competition.

Portugal will play its final two group stage matches against Iceland and Liechtenstein next month, and since their qualification is already certain, Martinez is free to rotate his players.
