(Cricket News) South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Quinton de Kock, is set to bid farewell to One Day International (ODI) cricket after the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India. The announcement regarding de Kock’s forthcoming ODI retirement was conveyed by Cricket South Africa (CSA), and it was shared on their official social media platform, ‘X’.
“Quinton de Kock has revealed his intention to retire from ODI cricket after the conclusion of the ICC @cricketworldcup in India,” stated CSA. This decision by de Kock coincided with CSA unveiling a 15-member South African squad for the World Cup, with Temba Bavuma leading the team. The ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India from October 5 to November 19.
The 30-year-old de Kock had taken the cricketing world by surprise in December 2021 when he announced an abrupt retirement from Test cricket, citing a desire to spend more quality time with his young family. Although he was rested during the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, which South Africa lost 0-3, de Kock is anticipated to participate in the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia, commencing on September 7.
In his cricketing career, Quinton featured in 54 Test matches, accumulating 3300 runs with his highest score being an impressive 141 not out. He also represented South Africa in 140 ODIs and 80 T20 Internationals, amassing 5966 and 2277 runs, respectively.
