(Football News) On Monday, Olympique Lyon confirmed the acquisition of midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles through a substantial four-year contract that extends until 2027. This move comes subsequent to the expiration of his contract with Arsenal in June.

The 25-year-old, who notably amassed a commendable 130+ appearances for his cherished boyhood club Arsenal across various competitions, is poised to reconnect with a familiar face in Lyon, his former teammate Alexandre Lacazette.

Throughout the 2021-22 season, Maitland-Niles encountered challenges in securing substantial playing time with Arsenal, prompting his temporary loan stints with AS Roma and Southampton.

In 2020, he took his first steps onto the international stage, making his debut for the England national team. That year, he gained experience through five appearances. However, he has since been absent from Gareth Southgate’s team lineup.

Lyon concluded the previous Ligue 1 season with a seventh-place finish.
