(Football news) After successfully hijacking Premier League team West Ham, the Dutch giants have won the race to recruit the 19-year-old winger. The Hammers initially believed their £14 million bid to the Premier League winners was sufficient to seal the move, and they were in the process of finalising negotiations.
However, Ajax moved up with an improved £17 million bid, which Man City accepted. Borges has already been given the go-ahead to fly to Amsterdam and undertake his physical before being confirmed as Ajax’s newest summer signing.
The two teams have reached a verbal agreement, with Borges also coming to terms on a four-year contract. This summer, Pep Guardiola’s squad has been open to offloading Borges on a temporary or permanent basis.
Although the teenager is highly respected at the Etihad, it is widely assumed that he will face significant difficulty breaking into the first team. Borges, who has been drawing interest from Premier League and Championship clubs after an impressive season for City’s Elite Development Squad, is aware of the difficulty of obtaining consistent game time in Manchester. In other news, Manchester City is nearing an agreement on a defence deal worth £140 million.
