(Football News) Portugal and Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo subtly criticized Argentine Lionel Messi, who recently joined Inter Miami, by stating that the Saudi Pro League is superior to Major League Soccer (MLS). Ronaldo further asserted that European football has witnessed a decline in quality in recent years.
Following Al Nassr’s 5-0 preseason defeat to LaLiga team Celta Vigo in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo shared these remarks with reporters:
“They criticized my move to the Saudi League, but what do we see now?” Ronaldo questioned.
Cristiano Ronaldo emphasized, “I paved the way for the Saudi league, and now many players are flocking here.”
After his contentious departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January.
During this transfer window, numerous high-profile players, including Karim Benzema, Marcelo Brozovic, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly, have followed Ronaldo’s footsteps and signed contracts to play in the Saudi Pro League.
“The fact is that my decision to join Saudi clubs played a vital role in attracting these new top players. It’s undeniable,” Ronaldo asserted.
Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his belief that within a year, an increasing number of top players will be drawn to the Saudi league.
He confidently stated, “In a year, the Saudi league will surpass both the Turkish league and the Dutch league.”
Cristiano Ronaldo remarked, “The players who have arrived are not as the president of the European Union described.”
He highlighted the youthfulness of players like Jota and Ruben Neves.
Additionally, Ronaldo took a dig at European football, asserting that it has experienced a significant decline in quality. He firmly declared, “I am completely certain that I will not return to any European club.”
At 38 years old, Ronaldo emphasized that the Premier League is the only league that remains strong and competitive. He stated, “They are far superior to all the other leagues.”
Ronaldo further asserted that Serie A had lost its vitality until his arrival at Juventus.
“When I joined Juventus, Serie A was lifeless, but after my signing, it experienced a revival. Wherever Cristiano goes, he sparks heightened interest.”
On Thursday, Al Nassr will engage in their second friendly match in Portugal, as they face off against the reigning domestic champions, Benfica.
