(Football news) Chelsea are having a terrible season as they are 11th on the Premier League table. Thomas Tuchel was sacked after a shaky start after which Graham Potter took charge. Things actually became worse as the London club became highly inconsistent. Graham Potter was sacked last weekend after a loss against Aston Villa. Bruno Saltor took charge of the team in the game against Liverpool where Chelsea was the better team. Frank Lampard has been appointed as the new interim manager and the last match has to be a signal that this team has the potential to do much better.
Three things Frank Lampard needs to do in his short term at Chelsea –
Solve goalscoring issues:
Chelsea have scored only 29 goals in the Premier League, which is the 8th lowest. Not having a proper striker apart from an injury prone and out of form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the main reason for that. Lampard will have to get this team scoring goals on a regular basis. There are really good forwards in Chelsea right now and even though none of them are pure goalscorers the English manager can put them in a system that will get goals.
Get the best out of new signings:
Chelsea have signed 14 players in the last 2 transfer windows and none of them has been particularly impressive. Lampard will be hoping to get at least a few of these players to have an impact. It will not only improve their current season but also make the next manager’s job a little easier. Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling are 2 candidates whose return to form will massively benefit the team.
Identity problems for the next manager:
Usually when a team is underperforming, there are a couple of issues with certain players. Lampard’s job as the interim manager will be to identify players that have a negative influence. Whoever the new manager is, he will definitely take advice from Lampard about the players and the team as a whole. For example if he finds a certain player to be the reason for unrest in the dressing room than he will make it known to the board and the next manager.
