(Football news) Alvaro Rodriguez has burst into the Real Madrid first team. The teenager made his debut when he came on as a substitute in the Copa Del Rey game against Cacereno. His 2nd appearance was a 2 minute cameo against Osasuna in La Liga. It was that game which really convinced Carlo Ancelotti as he got 2 assists and even though one of them was ruled out by VAR, his impact was there. On the weekend Real Madrid played Atletico Madrid at home. They were a goal down against 10 men with 13 minutes to go when Ancelotti brought on Alvaro Rodriguez.

The Uruguayan managed to score Real Madrid’s equaliser which rescued a point for them. At that point it didn’t look that great but following Barcelona’s loss at Almeria it is looking important as the point gap has been cut down from 8 to 7. Carlo Ancelotti has already come out and said that Alvaro Rodriguez will be a first team player next season.

Alvaro is likely to be in every single Real Madrid squad for the rest of this season as well but he will officially become a first team player next season. Being Uruguayan his introduction was similar to that of Fede Valverde who also came through the ranks of Castilla. If Rodriguez turns out to be as good as Valverde then Real Madrid have got a gem of a player.

Real Madrid’s decision of not buying a back-up for Karim Benzema in January or in the summer was questioned. Right now it looks like Alvaro Rodriguez will fit that role perfectly. He will play 2nd fiddle to Benzema and then Rodriguez can be in competition with Endrick when he comes to the club in 2024. Real Madrid’s academy has always produced decent strikers like Alvaro Morata, Hugo Duro and Borja Mayoral but the club will be hoping that Alvaro Rodriguez turns out to be better than the lot.
