Jurgen Klopp said after the game that he can't remember a worse performance

(Football news) Liverpool lost 3-0 away at Brighton in what was a disastrous outing. Jurgen Klopp had Darwin Nunez unavailable in addition to long term absentees Arthur, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk. Brighton dominated the first half but it was still goalless at the break. In the 2nd half the home side switched it on and scored 3 goals. Solly March continued his great run and scored two before assisting Danny Welback for the 3rd. The Merseyside club couldn’t respond as the game ended at 3-0. Now Liverpool are 9th on the table and level on points with Chelsea but the Reds do have a game in hand.

It all has come down to the number of injuries that Liverpool has sustained. Jurgen Klopp’s Gegenpress is a very tiring system to play in and the injuries are bound to happen which is why Liverpool need squad depth. They did add Arthur in the summer but he has played only 13 minutes due to injury. Darwin Nunez has had a decent time but his consistency in front of goal hasn’t been good. The signing of Cody Gakpo in January had a lot of buzz but right now other areas of the pitch are not good enough for him to have an impact.

Now the pressure is on Jurgen Klopp to rescue the season. Their next game is an FA Cup tie against Wolves which may be Liverpool’s only chance of winning something this season. Liverpool have started the process of new investors which is a good sign but Klopp can surely do better with the resources he has. The German has already ruled out making any more signings in this window. He will be hoping to get some players fit and bounce back. Klopp getting sacked would be a shock as Liverpool have backed him in similar situations before but he will have to bounce back before it’s too late.
