(Football news) After two scrappy wins against Aston Villa and Leicester City, Liverpool lost 3-1 away at Brentford. The title race was realistically over even before the World Cup but now the top 4 spot seems to be in trouble. Jurgen Klopp has a lot of things to fix and they definitely need a couple of more signings in this window. They desperately need a midfielder because that is where the trouble is. Liverpool missed out on Aurélien Tchouaméni who joined Real Madrid and they ended up signing Arthur on loan who had played just 13 minutes before getting injured. 

Liverpool were missing Diogo Jota, James Milner, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino. Andy Robertson started on the bench as Konstantinos Tsimikas was preferred at left back. Brentford were without their star striker Ivan Toney but he wasn’t missed. The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute as Ibrahima Konate scored an own goal from a corner. In the 39th minute Yoane Wissa looked to have scored from a corner but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. Three minutes later Wissa got his goal and this time it counted. Klopp bought off Tsimikas for Robertson at half time and Virgil Van Dijk was also taken off due to a knock.

Liverpool started the 2nd half with much more intensity. Darwin Nunez pulled one back but VAR once again intervened to rule it out for offside. Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted Alex Oxalade-Chamberlain to make it 2-1 in the 50th minute. Liverpool had a lot of possession but they couldn’t get the equaliser. Bryan Mbeumo put the game to bed with a goal in the 84th minute. Brentford are now just 2 points behind Liverpool at 7th place but the Merseyside club do have a game in hand.
