(Cricket news) 15th November is a very special day for Indian cricket and in the life of Sachin Tendulkar. On 15th November 1989, 16 year old Tendulkar made his international debut in the 1st Test against Pakistan in Karachi. Even though he struggled in his first few games, he quickly adapted to the international standard. He ended up playing 24 years of international cricket for India where he became one of the greatest players of all time. In fact 24 years later on 15th November 2013, Tendulkar walked out to bat for one last time in his final international game against West Indies. In those 24 years, Tendulkar carried Indian cricket on his shoulders all the way. His impact on India, Indian cricket and cricket is something which will be very difficult to match.
Tendulkar still holds the record for most runs and most centuries in international cricket among others and no player is close to breaking them. Throughout his career, he was India's best player and won so many matches for the team. Tendulkar scored over 18,000 Test runs including 51 hundreds and over 15,000 ODI runs including 49 hundreds. He is the highest run scorer in the history of the ODI World Cup and he was also India's highest run scorer in their World Cup winning campaign in 2011. Tendulkar was also named the Player of the Tournament in the 2003 edition where India finished as runners up. The longevity of his career is something which makes him standout.
Tendulkar's impact is something which is far more precious than any of his sporting achievements. A number of Indian cricketing greats like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag grew up idolizing Sachin Tendulkar and when they came into the Indian team, Tendulkar was still playing. Although he wasn't a successful captain for India, every captain credits Sachin Tendulkar for being a brilliant asset. He has received the Arjuna Award, Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and the Bharat Ratna Award for his contribution to the sport. Now 9 years after his retirement, Indian fans still love Tendulkar and chant his name every now and then.
