(Football news) Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly very close to signing Mario Götze from PSV Eindhoven. The Europa League winners have agreed personal terms with the World Cup winner on a contract worth just over €4 million per season. Frankfurt are understood to have activated a €4 million release clause in the midfielder's contract to bring him back to Germany on a deal which runs down until 2024 with an option to extend till 2025. The Eintracht board have given the green light for the transfer to go through. Götze aged 30 has racked up 12 goals and 11 assists in 52 games for PSV through the 2021/22 season.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star enjoyed quite a successful time in PSV Eindhoven. A couple of clubs were interested in the 2014 World Cup hero but he chose to come back to Germany to play in the Bundesliga once again. Eintracht’s sporting director Markus Krösche is finding ways to improve his attack as they are preparing for their first Champions League appearance since 1971 and with Daichi Kamada’’s complicated contract situation, the signing of Götze makes sense.
Frankfurt were not the only club interested in the playmaker as Benfica were leading the race for the German forward. Roger Schmidt, who had coached Gotze at PSV is the new coach of Benfica and would have liked to work with the German again in the Portugal club. Götze always had a fixed release clause of just €4 million and many clubs were interested in him. For Götze the move to Frankfurt makes a lot of sense as he looks to make a comeback in the Germany World Cup squad for this year. Over the years, Götze has gone unnoticed but he has been playing really well for PSV Eindhoven and would like to continue the same form for Frankfurt.
