(Football news) The World Cup play-off semi final between Scotland vs Ukraine, originally scheduled for March 24th, has been postponed due to Russia’s invasion. In a discussion involving FIFA, the Scotland, Ukraine, Wales and Austria Football Associations, the group jointly decided to postpone the fixture to June. The play-off semi final was going to be played at Hampden Park with the winner facing either Austria or Wales in Cardiff for a spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Russia was due to face Poland in their semi final but have now been expelled from the tournament by FIFA as a sanction for the invasion. There remains a sense of ambiguity regarding Wales’ fixture against Austria which was scheduled for March 24th. The game between the two sides is sold out and will take place at the Cardiff City Stadium. It’s expected that the game will go according to plan and The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is hopeful to get more clarity over the situation in the coming days.
