Women’s Nation Cricket League announcement

Western Australia have named an unchanged 13-player squad ahead of must-win Women’s National Cricket League contests with Queensland Fire at Allan Border Field on Thursday February 15 and Saturday 17 February.

(Cricket news) Back-to back victories over Queensland (second) would see WA (third) reach their first WNCL Final since the 2019-2020 domestic season, which saw them prevail over New South Wales by 42 runs at North Sydney Oval.

A loss in either fixture would see WA miss out, with Queensland the only other team in the mix to reach the decider against Tasmania at Blundstone Arena on Saturday February 24.

English star Amy Jones features in the travelling squad, after making her first appearance for WA in six years last time out against Tasmania.

Her experience and class in the middle-order proved vital, top-scoring with 42 off 36 balls to help her side to a crucial 36-run victory.

Meanwhile, Maddy Darke, Amy Edgar, Alana King, Chloe Piparo and Lilly Mills have been rewarded for their strong performances across all formats this summer, by being selected for the three-day ‘Green v Gold’ red-ball fixture to be played at Karen Rolton Oval from March 5-7.

The match will bring together the most promising domestic players from across the country, and prepare them for the rigours of the red-ball game at international level.

Darke (442 runs at 63.71) and Piparo (437 at 54.62) have been outstanding at the top of the batting order to sit second and third on the leading run-scorers list, while Mills (16 wickets at 20.37) and Edgar (15 at 21.40) have produced consistent wicket-taking performances with the ball.
