Football fans have taken notice of the news that former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian is reportedly planning a spectacular comeback to the Premier League this winter.
Only a year ago, the 36-year-old Brazilian took a break from English football and moved to Olympiacos following his time at Fulham. Nevertheless, his time in Greece was brief, as he only made 11 appearances in all competitions.
Willian is now considering his options and has reportedly been approached by a number of Premier League teams looking to add more attacking players in January. The Telegraph claims that it seems Everton has become one of the teams interested in hiring him.
The ultimate choice is still up in the air since, despite their initial interest, the Toffees are also considering other targets. Willian may, however, immediately strengthen Everton’s fight to avoid relegation this season if he signs on.
Willian has worn the jerseys of Fulham, Chelsea, and Arsenal during his career; joining Everton would be his fourth English club. Willian has been publicly complimented by fellow player and Fulham captain Tom Cairney, who has described him as an extraordinary potential.
“It’s not even close, Willian. His footballing intelligence is incredible, in my opinion,” Cairney said. “He doesn’t, in my opinion, get the credit he merits in the Premier League. He was, in my opinion, among the best players in the league for a good four or five years, but was somewhat eclipsed by Eden Hazard, who was duly hailed as the best player. Willian, however, was something unique—very unique.
Willian won two Premier League championships while he was at Chelsea in the 2014–15 and 2016–17 seasons. He also won the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League. Even though he had a remarkable time at Stamford Bridge, his time at Arsenal was much less successful. He only made 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2020–21 season, failing to duplicate his prior success.
