Lizaad Williams signed by Delhi Capitals, to replace Brook

(Cricket News) Delhi Capitals have signed South African pacer, Lizaad Williams for the remainder of IPL 2024. Williams will replace Harry Brook, the English batter who pulled out of IPL 2024 following his grandmother’s demise.

Williams has been signed by the Capitals for a base price of 50 Lakhs INR and will join his South African mate, Anrich Nortje in the Delhi Camp. He has never been a part of the IPL and this will his first ever stint in the league.

Capitals have not had a very good start to the tournament. They have won just 1 out of their 5 games so far and are placed last in the points table. Their bowling department has been one of the main causes behind their failure in this season up till now.

Addition of Williams might just help the side strengthen the bowling attack. He will bolster Capitals’ pace department, which comprises Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson and Mukesh Kumar. They also have two pace-bowling allrounders in Mitchell Marsh and Sumit Kumar.

Capitals also had the likes of another South African pacer Lungi Ngidi in their side, but he pulled out of the league ahead of the season. Ngidi suffered a lower-back injury earlier and failed to fully recover on time, which eventually forced him to miss the IPL.

Williams had a decent SA20 earlier this year. He finished fourth in the wicket-takers list taking a total of 15 wickets, playing for the Joburg Super Kings. He was also a part of the Proteas’ World Cup squad last year. He has played a total of 83 T20s and has 106 wickets under his belt.

Williams signing by the Capitals can prove crucial for them, given that their pace attack has not been up to mark and has been leaking runs. Mitchell Marsh is also suffering from a hamstring injury and is out at least for a week.
