(Football news) After a thumping 5-2 victory against Liverpool at Anfield, Real Madrid have played 3 frustrating games. The first one was a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid where Madrid needed a 90th minute equaliser from Castilla player Alvaro Rodriguez. In the Copa Del Rey semi final, Real Madrid lost the 1st leg against Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu 1-0.

To make matters worse they drew 0-0 away at Real Betis to give Barcelona a 9 point lead at the top of La Liga. Los Blancos faced a similar dip in form last season as well but the difference is that Barcelona were also inconsistent. This year the Blaugrana are doing really well in La Liga due to which Real Madrid are 2nd in the league.

It was pretty clear that Real Madrid needed reinforcements in January. Despite being offered chances to sign players like Joao Cancelo, Fran Garcia and Dusan Vlahovic, Los Blancos didn’t make a single signing. The reason for that was different according to different reports but it has backfired completely.

Having said that, this current Real Madrid squad is not as bad as they have been performing. Some of the blame has to go on Carlo Ancelotti who isn’t using all the resources available to him. Real Madrid may well finish the season without winning a major trophy as the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup are technically last season’s trophies.

The general acceptance is that if Carlo Ancelotti fails to win a trophy he will be relieved of his duties despite having a contract till 2024. He is a great manager who has delivered the goods for Real Madrid but it may be time to move on. Managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are without a club and it won’t stay like that for long.

Club legends Raul and Xabi Alonso could also be good options to come in. The La Liga may well be out of reach but they can still turn things around in the Copa Del Rey and Real Madrid have a history of winning the Champions League from these kinds of positions.
