(Cricket news) Defending champion West Indies will be looking to top their group in the Super 12. They are currently placed on the bottom of the table as they lost their first match to England. They will be playing against South Africa in the next match and after a dismal batting performance in the first game the team will need to rebuild in order to climb up the ladder.
Here are 4 players who can play a major role in the T20 World Cup for the team.
Chris Gayle
The Jamaican is without a doubt the best T20 cricketer to have ever graced the earth, with the potential to unleash a level of mayhem unseen in previous generations. On September 11, 2007, Gayle became the first player to achieve a century in the T20 World Cup, which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. With seven fours and ten sixes, he scored 117 runs off 57 balls.
The left hander is 42 years old and is possibly playing his last T20 World Cup for his country. Gayle is still one of the most feared batsmen as his form can have a heavy effect on the team.
Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard is a dangerous lower middle order batsman who can also bowl medium speed with subtle changes of pace. Pollard has also played for Somerset, Dhaka Gladiators, and Barbados Tridents, and is one of the most sought-after players in the game's shortest format.
An injury forced him to miss the ICC WT20 in Bangladesh in 2014 but his credentials in the shortest format of the game are enough for him to be a vital addition to the team.
Dwayne Bravo
A high quality medium pacer, Bravo is one of the leading bowlers in the T20 format. He appeared in every game for the West Indies at the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India, which the team won. One of the key reasons the West Indies won the tournament is because of his excellent death bowling. He has taken 18 wickets in 17 matches this year.
Bravo can lead the young team in the bowling department and is constantly featuring in T20 games.
Lendl Simmons
The right hander has played 68 T20 matches for West Indies and has scored over 1527 runs with an average of 26.33. Perhaps his claim to fame is winning Man of the Match in the World T20 semi final against India. Simmons had been ruled out of the competition owing to a back injury, but he was brought in as a substitute for the injured Andre Fletcher just before the semifinal, where he scored a 51-ball 82 to lead the Windies to the finals, which they won.
