(Football news) David Moyes’ West Ham are set to play against Gent in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League. The Belgian side are having a relatively bad season according to their high standards as they are currently fifth in their domestic division but in the Conference league they beat Istanbul Basaksehir in the last 16. Gent’s 20-year-old forward Gift Orban, scored the fastest hat-trick in UEFA competition against Istanbul as it took the youngster only 205 seconds to net his treble in the second leg. Should the Hammers win, they will either play AZ Alkmaar or Anderlecht in the semi-final stages.
Fiorentina on the other hand have been drawn against Polish side Lech Poznan in the quarter-final of the Conference League. La Viola qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition by beating Turkish outfit Sivasspor 4-1 on Thursday as they cemented a 5-1 aggregate win. Although they won it was followed by ugly scenes that unfolded after the fourth goal in the 89th minute as a pitch invader made his way towards the pitch and punched Alessandro Bianco in the face.
Fiorentina are subsequently the only Italian side left in the competition after Lazio were eliminated by AZ Alkmaar in the Round of 16. Vincenzo Italiano’s side will be hoping to follow in Roma’s footsteps after they won the inaugural edition of the competition in 2022.
