(Football news) Prior to Thursday’s Premier League match, the Scotsman had made 22 unsuccessful excursions to the Gunners’ field. However, the Irons handed Mikel Arteta’s team their first home loss in the top tier of the new season thanks to a contentious opener from Tomas Soucek and a header from Dinos Mavropanos against his former team.

Arsenal had plenty of opportunities in North London, but a combination of worrisome wastefulness, a few careless passes, and excellent West Ham defending kept the Gunners from taking the lead in the Premier League. Arsenal was only spared an even worse loss by a David Raya penalty save from Said Benrahma.

When Lucas Paqueta appeared during the warm-up, there was a lot of worry prior to the game. However, the Brazilian was cleared to play for West Ham, and Leandro Trossard filled in for the suspended Kai Havertz for Arsenal.

Chaos resulted from a cross from Emerson Palmieri on the left, when Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Magalhaes obstructed each other’s path, seemingly giving away a corner. However, Jarrod Bowen maintained possession of the ball and cut back for Soucek to poke home.

Similar to Anthony Gordon’s controversial winner for Newcastle United against the Gunners last month, the Irons’ first goal was confirmed on the pitch because the VAR room was unable to conclusively demonstrate that the ball had stayed in or gone out of play due to an insufficient number of appropriate camera angles.
