(Football news) Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Watford’s in-form striker Joao Pedro next season, according to Fabrizio Romano. Both clubs have reached an agreement about the fees for the versatile forward, with Pedro already having personal terms accepted with Brighton. The Seagulls had to make a move swiftly to snap up the Brazilian star ahead of the summer transfer window as there was interest from several other Premier League clubs.
Pedro was subsequently part of the Watford squad that were relegated from the Premier League last season. The striker only managed three goals and one assist in 28 league games which was not enough to help his side survive relegation. But this season his numbers have significantly improved in the Championship with the 21-year-old scoring 11 goals and assisting four in 35 games.
However, his goal scoring form has done little to help Watford promotion this season as Chris Wilder’s team are languishing in mid-table in the Championship. Although Pedro’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Brighton moving quickly to complete a move for the former Fluminense man. In the January transfer window Pedro was on the verge of joining Newcastle United but the Magpies had two bids rejected for the striker.
The move never materialized as the forward remained at Vicarage Road, Everton also came in with a late bid but that too was rejected by the Watford hierarchy. The Brazilian has the opportunity to play continental football next season if the Seagulls maintain their Premier League form and push for a European finish. Although their European hopes took a hit after the shocking 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at City Ground. They remain five points off the Europa Conference League place but have played three fewer games than sixth-placed Aston Villa.
