(Cricket News) Sources confirmed that Rahul Dravid, whose contract ended following the conclusion of the ODI World Cup last week, has decided not to continue as the head coach of the Indian team. Last week, India was defeated by Australia in the World Cup final. Dravid is not keen on extending his contract as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, with National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman likely to take over from him.
Sources have also confirmed that Dravid’s former teammate and former India batter Laxman will likely assume the role of head coach for the five-match T20I series against Australia, which begins later on Thursday. Dravid was named the team’s head coach in 2021 after India’s World Cup campaign ended prematurely in the UAE due to injury.
Under his leadership, India advanced to the finals of both the ODI World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship, losing to Australia both times. Last year, the team advanced to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup, where they were defeated by eventual champions England. India did win the 2023 Asia Cup under Rahul Dravid, beating Sri Lanka by 10 Wickets.
