(Cricket News) Many sources state that the batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have not played in T20 Internationals since the 2022 T20 World Cup, have notified the BCCI that they are available for selection in the shortest format.
The selection committee will convene on Friday to choose the team for the three T20 games against Afghanistan as well as the first two Tests against England.
The series against Afghanistan commences on January 11, while the five-match Test series against England starts on January 25. The Indian team will play only three T20 Internationals against Afghanistan prior to the World Cup in June.
In other news, the selection committee is likely to rest fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for upcoming games against Afghanistan. Siraj and Bumrah played crucial roles in India’s thumping win over South Africa at Cape Town on Thursday.
India levelled the two-match series and is scheduled to play in the England Test series. Meanwhile, the selection committee will have to choose a new captain for the Twenty20s since Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are unavailable for selection due to injury.
Three selectors, SS Das, Salil Ankola, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, are in Cape Town, and the Indian team management wants its two in-form pacers to be totally fit for the lengthy series against England at home.
