(Football News) Vinicius Jr, with a leap, swivel, and landing accompanied by outstretched arms, ignited cheers from the Al-Awwal Park crowd. Interestingly, the jubilation wasn’t for the local hero and former Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo; instead, it was sparked by Vinicius Jr breaking into Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “Siuuu” celebration after netting the opening goal in the seventh minute of the Spanish Super Cup Final against Barcelona on Sunday. Notably, Ronaldo was also in attendance for the clash.
The Brazilian winger went on to achieve a first-half hat-trick, propelling Real Madrid to a resounding 4-1 victory over Barcelona. In a press conference, Vinicius expressed, “I did the Siu celebration for Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s my idol. I’m so happy with this team; we’re doing special things at Real Madrid, and Saudi people always show me their love.”
Taking control of the match in Riyadh, Vinicius scored his first goals since returning from a prolonged injury absence in the seventh, 10th, and 39th minutes. This marked Vinicius’s third match after being sidelined since November due to an injury picked up during a World Cup qualifier with Brazil. His opening goal saw a skillful dribble past Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña after an assist by Jude Bellingham. The second goal transpired in a breakaway, assisted by Rodrygo, while the third came from a penalty kick, which Vinicius expertly converted after being brought down by Araujo.
Although Robert Lewandowski narrowed the margin with a goal for Barcelona in the 33rd minute, Madrid maintained control throughout the match, securing a comfortable victory. Rodrygo sealed the triumph with a goal in the 64th minute after a pass by Vinicius deflected off Barcelona defender Jules Koundé inside the area.
