Vincent Kompany is set to join Burnley as their new manager

(Football news) Former two time Premier League winner and Manchester City legend is set to become the new manager for relegated Burnley. Vincent Kompany is reportedly close to becoming Burnley manager after Anderlecht confirmed he is leaving the Belgian club and is very keen to replace Sean Dyche and return to England for his wife Carla’s family. Kompany this season has also attracted interest from Borussia Monchengladbach, but his return to England  is what drove him for the Burnley job. He has a brilliant season as a manager reviving Anderlecht’s fortunes since returning to his boyhood club, leading them to third place this season.

The two parties have decided to part ways in mutual consent as Kompany is looking to take the next steps into management. This decision was taken with a lot of mutual respect and gratitude between both the parties after everything that he has achieved in such a short time. Burnley's six-year stay in the Premier League finally ended on Sunday despite the best efforts of caretaker boss Mike Jackson to keep their Premier League status alive. It was recently reported that Burnley's owners are in debt after relegation and are seeking for more loans to help them clear out the existing debt as they grapple with financial calamity after relegation. The relegation also means that the club will have to repay a significant chunk of the £65million loan given to owners ALK Capital to complete their takeover which was in 2020, on top that they are also going to lose more than £100m in broadcaster money

To make matters worse, nine key players are also out of contract, which means Kompany is taking quite a sizable job, especially with the rebuilding needed under the new management and the new manager with the uncertainty over the availability of funds. Kompany was first named player-manager for Anderlecht after he left Etihad in 2019, but after a terrible start to the season which was subsequently their worst start to a league season, he returned to playing duties for the rest of the season and last year he was confirmed as the permanent manager. Burnley’s main objective will be to get promoted next year and get back to the Premier league where they enjoy a brilliant 6 year stay,

Kompany said: ‘Today only one feeling prevails: I am proud that I was able to start this new chapter at the club of my heart. I have now been a player and a coach of RSC Anderlecht, but above all I remain a loyal fan.’
