The 26-year-old Sharma has been a reliable member of the national team and has proven herself time and time again when things count. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented her with the title and a cash reward of INR 3 crore.

Notably, Deepti’s path to success started in the low-key Awadhpuri neighborhood in Agra, where she trained with local talent such as Deepak Chahar.

In 2014, the all-round player made her debut for the national team, and since then, she has played in 194 matches, taken 229 wickets, and been a useful batter down the order. She also played a significant role in the Women’s Asia Cup in 2018 and 2022.

In December 2023, Deepti became the second Indian woman cricketer to win the ICC “Player of the Month” title for her outstanding all-around performance.

She continued on to win a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where India lost to Australia in the final. Deepti was outstanding in the ODI series against Australia, finishing as the joint-leading wicket-taker of the series with Georgia Wareham.

The all-rounder spoke to India Today about her gratitude and her desire to promote women’s cricket in India and throughout the nation.
