(Football news) Matchday 3 of the UEFA Conference League had two major upsets. Giants Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma were beaten for the first time in the group stage.
Jose Mourinho's AS Roma were dismantled by Norwegian club FK Bodø/Glimt. Roma travelled away after their narrow loss against Juventus. Mourinho had benched some of his first choice players including Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Tammy Abraham and Lorenzo Pellegrini and it showed as the home side was all over Roma throughout the game. After Bodø/Glimt went 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, Roma managed to pull a goal back but since then it was nothing. The home side had 9 shots on target while Roma managed only 2. Striker Eric Botheim had the game of his life as he scored two goals and assisted 3. The loss is a big psychological blow for Roma who play table toppers Napoli on the weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur were stunned by Dutch club Vitesse. Spurs had gotten back to winning ways on the weekend against Crystal Palace but plummeted straight back down with the 1-0 loss. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane did not travel with the squad along with a few others and it had more of an impact than Nuno Espírito Santo would've hoped for. The home side went toe to toe with Spurs and managed to dominate them. Left back Maximilian Witteck's volley in the 78th minute broke the deadlock. Tottenham couldn't create a single good chance after conceding which cost them 3 points. Spurs do not have much time to correct things as they travel across London to play West Ham on Sunday.
