Over the following five years, the donation will support the expansion of girls’ competitive possibilities, female players’ professional growth, and the representation of women in coaching and refereeing.
According to the sport’s national governing body, women’s football tycoon Michele Kang will give $30 million to U.S. Soccer on Tuesday. This is the biggest donation ever made to the organization’s women’s and girls’ programs.
The gift was made just months after the United States won its fifth Olympic gold, marking a comeback for one of the greatest teams in the history of the sport after a dismal performance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
One of the most powerful owners in the sport is Kang, whose Washington Spirit will play the Orlando Pride in this weekend’s NWSL final match.
She established the first multi-team women’s football league last year, which also includes the English team London City Lionesses and the French team Olympique Lyonnais Feminin.
“For far too long, women’s sports have been neglected and underappreciated,” Kang said in a statement.
“By providing the tools female athletes require to realize their full potential, I am dedicated to elevating the bar for excellence in women’s football, both on and off the field.”
