(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte’s future is in doubt after a fiery press conference where he blamed the players, owners and the board for the poor performances. The Italian manager was furious after his side drew 3-3 against Southampton and there is a growing indication his comments were made with the intention of getting sacked and getting a settlement instead of being let go when he’s out of contract at the end of the 2023 season. With the international break ongoing, Conte has returned to Italy and will be waiting for the club’s decision in the next 48 hours.

Known as a serial winner, Antonio Conte has a reputation of instilling a winning mentality but has failed to do so at Tottenham Hotspur. He publicly said that some players were unambitious and unwilling to step outside their comfort zone, settling for mediocrity irrespective of who is the coach. He also blamed the culture of the club for being the reason that has resulted in a lack of trophies. Spurs finished strongly last season, finishing ahead of Arsenal last season but have failed to build on that this season and could miss out on Champions League qualification next season.

Tottenham have had a perennial problem of underachievement and players’ mentality, attitude and hunger have come into question after another lacklustre season. The international break gives chairman Daniel Levy the time to decide what action needs to be taken against Conte while the players and staff take a pre-scheduled two days off and will report back on Tuesday. Players have not publicly commented on Conte’s outburst yet but believe it’s only a matter of time before he leaves the club. Spurs have been linked to Mauricio Pochettino once again with several players and staff pleading with the Argentine to return to the club.
