Tottenham Hotspur sack Nuno Espírito Santo after just 4 months

(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-0 at home to Manchester United. The match was branded by football fans as El-Sackico where the manager who lost the game would be sacked. As it turned out Nuno Espírito Santo has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after just 4 months incharge of the club.

Ever since Tottenham have played the Champions League final it has been downhill for them. They ended up sacking Mauricio Pochettino the very next season. Their next manager Jose Mourinho was sacked just a week before the Carabao cup final. It is safe to say that Nuno was not Tottenham's first choice by any means. Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Gennaro Gattuso and Paolo Fonseca were all in talks with the club way before Nuno.

The Portuguese manager started really well as he defeated Manchester City, Wolves and Watford in the first three games and won the manager of the month award. Then it went from bad to worse as spurs lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and 3-1 to arch rivals Arsenal. A 1-0 loss to West Ham and 3-0 loss to United was the nail in the coffin. Tottenham have qualified for the Carabao cup Quarter final but find themselves 3rd in their Conference League table with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw.

In a statement released by Tottenham Hotspur, Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: "I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision. Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

Being defensive is the reason Jose Mourinho was sacked. Nuno Espírito Santo has always been a defensive coach, therefore his appointment never made any sense whatsoever. Having a player who wanted to leave the club in Harry Kane has also been an issue as the striker has been a shadow of a player he has been throughout his career.

The big question is what is next for Tottenham Hotspur. There have already been rumours about Antonio Conte being the first choice once again. If it eventually does happen is something that'll be doubtful until it's made official. Spurs play a Conference League game against Vitesse on Thursday before which they will have to appoint an interim manager.
