(Football news) History is set to be made on September 19th when Tottenham Hotspur take on London rivals Chelsea in the world’s first net-zero carbon football match, branded #GameZero. Spurs have teamed up with Sky and COP26 to encourage everyone involved with the club including players, staff and fans to take sustainable actions on matchday.
Tottenham will also take part in reforestation projects to reduce emissions and carbon footprint and have urged fans to use public transport or cycle to the match against Chelsea. Chelsea will be travelling to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a coach that uses biofuel, a form of renewable diesel produced from food waste products. Players will also be using cartons instead of plastic bottles for water to minimize waste and demonstrate what solutions can be implemented for a zero-carbon future.

#GameZero is an important initiative by Tottenham, Sky and COP26 towards protecting our planet and if the initiative proves to be successful, it will undoubtedly encourage more football clubs in the Premier League and beyond to adopt sustainable practices and reduce carbon emissions. Tottenham are currently on top of the Premier League table, having won all three Premier League matches without conceding a single goal but will face a tough test against European champions Chelsea.
