(Football news) Manchester United has announced the appointment of Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season. Post that Manchester United will appoint a long term manager and Rangnick will become a consultant for a further two years.
The appointment is a little out of the box but his appointment is more to do with his future role and what he will do as a consultant. Having said that, Rangnick will have to do a little bit of repair work until the end of the season. The German will take charge of the team after his visa work is sorted which could be before or after the Arsenal game. Here are 3 things Ralf Rangnick must do to turn things around at Manchester United:
1) Bring defensive stability:
Manchester United have been leaking way too many goals this season. New signing Raphael Varane's season has been plagued with injuries. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have failed to carry their Euro 2020 form into this season. Rangnick has to find out his best defensive system and personnel.
2) Put a pressing system in practice:
It is safe to say that Manchester United haven't got a system when it comes to pressing. Rangnick is considered a revolutionary coach who developed the pressing system that Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel use. He will need to get Manchester United in a system where they can press effectively.
3) Solve the midfield crisis:
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struggled to find a consistent midfield for Manchester United. Rangick will have to find his ideal midfield combination. He has the options of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Namanja Matic, Scott Mctominay, Fred, Donny Van de Beek and Jesse Lingard. Whether he chooses to play Bruno as a number 10 or drops him back to an 8 is the big question. The January transfer window is not far away and Manchester needs a proper defensive midfielder which will make Rangnick's job much easier.
