Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has expressed worries about the 2025 Club World Cup’s possible detrimental effects.
“The Club World Cup is being held in violation of the regulations, and there is no way to regulate the competition in a way that would be acceptable to all parties. Many athletes are worn out and physically exhausted when they enter these tournaments. “With 60,000 professional players in Europe alone, these games upset the balance of the rest of football,” Tebas said.
“If Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid advance further in the Club World Cup, we will have a major problem since their league matches will have to be rescheduled. Furthermore, if they make it to the semifinals, they might win €100 million in prize money, something no other club will receive. This totally distorts competition. Decisions cannot be taken without considering the impact on domestic leagues.”
“I recently learned that FIFA is considering limiting the number of participating teams. First and foremost, they cannot compel us to comply with this, and the economic cost to the leagues is significant,” Tebas told Sports Summit Madrid.
