Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from the hospital and is now recovering at home, just days after suffering a heart attack. Tamim underwent angioplasty on Monday and will continue to be monitored by medical specialists in the coming weeks.
The incident occurred while Tamim was captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP ground. He began to feel unwell shortly after the toss and was initially taken to the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly Fazilatunnesa Hospital) in Savar for tests. He was then airlifted to a hospital in Dhaka. However, upon returning to BKSP, Tamim collapsed, and his condition deteriorated rapidly.
In a critical moment, the Mohammedan team physio had to perform CPR before hospital staff administered shock therapy to revive him. Once stabilized, Tamim underwent surgery, during which a stent was placed in one of his arteries.
Family members rushed to be by Tamim’s side, joined by teammates, coaches, journalists, and well-wishers who were deeply concerned by the sudden health scare. After the procedure, doctors noted that the next 72 hours would be crucial to his recovery.
Tamim was later moved to another hospital in Dhaka, and was discharged on Friday.
Though Tamim retired from international cricket in January 2024, he remains active in domestic competitions. He recently led Fortune Barishal to their second Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title and has also scored two centuries for Mohammedan in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) season.
