Super Giants registers yet another victory, defeats Capitals

(Cricket news) Durban Super Giants registered yet another victory, defeating Pretoria Capitals by 8 runs in the SA20 at Kingsmead, Durban. With their seventh win of the season, the Super Giants extended their lead at the top of the table.

Junior Dala’s 5-fer and a superb innings from Breetzke helped the hosts to the seventh win of their campaign, ending their home leg on a high. Electing to bat, Super Giants lost Tony de Zorzi early on in the innings, but it did not affected Breetzke as he kept hammering the bowlers. Quinton De Cock was just a spectator in the 61-run partnership for the second wicket as Breetzke did the bulk of scoring.

The team reached the halfway stage at 107/2 with Breetzke getting 63 of those. In the twelfth over, Senuran Muthusamy restored the bowling side’s fortunes by taking two wickets, including Breetzke, who had reached 73 off 46 balls. Klaasen played a good cameo for the home side before Muthusamy dismissed him as well. Super Giants at the halfway stage looked well set for a score above 200, but badly faltered as they only managed to get 174 in their 20 overs.

Capitals had a bad start to chase, losing Phil Salt in the very first over. Will Jacks and Verreynne stitched a valuable 40-run partnership to bring the innings back on track. Both the batters however, did not manage to go big as they were dismissed inside the first 9 overs. Junior Dala then ran havoc in the Capitals’ middle order, picking up 5 wickets and not allowing the visitors to come back into the game.

Capitals captain Wayne Parnell, Bosch and Adil Rashid dragged the game to the very end but were not able to take their side home as they were handed a 8-run defeat.
