Rawalpindi, Nov 28 (Cricket News) In a noble gesture, England captain Ben Stokes has decided to donate his match fee from the Test series against Pakistan to help the flood-affected people of Pakistan.
This is the first time in 17 years that England have toured Pakistan and the three-match series will be a part of the World Test Championship.
Taking to Twitter, Stokes wrote: “I’m donating my match fees from this Test series to the Pakistan Flood appeal.” The monsoon season had seen the most severe flooding in Pakistan, leaving several homeless, and public facilities and schools severely damaged.
“The floods that devastated Pakistan earlier this year was very sad to see and has had significant impact on the country and the people,” Stokes wrote.
“The game has given me a lot in my life and I feel it’s only right to give something back that goes far beyond cricket. I will be donating my match fees from this Test series to the Pakistan Flood appeal.
“Hopefully this donation can go towards the rebuilding of areas of Pakistan most affected by the flooding.” While Pakistan are fifth in the WTC Standings, England are out of contention for the final and are placed seventh.
England last played a Test match in Pakistan in 2005, losing the three-match series 2-0. The visitors had played a seven-match T20I series in Pakistan in September-October, which they won 4-3.
Stokes also shared a link to the Pakistan Flood appeal, a fund raiser set up by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) in the United Kingdom.
